MY SKINCARE ROUTINE

The skin is the largest organ of the human body, a barrier that protects us on a daily basis and which, if compromised, can cause numerous problems.

Taking care of it is therefore important first and foremost to keep us healthy. Every day, the skin is exposed to aggressions such as air pollution, extreme temperatures and UV radiation.

And then there is the aesthetic factor: a radiant and smooth face is achieved precisely by daily use of gestures and products tailored to one's needs.

Face cleaning and careful removal of make-up are the basis of daily skin care. Without them, your skin would have clogged pores and would not be able to take in the necessary nutrients.

I have always been a supporter of personal care because I believe it is better to invest in one's skin than in clothing: a clean, well-groomed and blemish-free epidermis is the best clothing one can have.

In my personal experience I have never suffered from acne (a predominantly genetic factor) but a great skin is not simply a matter of DNA: your daily habits, in fact, have a big impact on what you see in the mirror. I have always taken care of my skin and this has involved a lot of effort, also from a financial point of view.

Yes, because the beauty industry is pretty wild right now and I know I'm not alone in finding it all a little over whelming there's new launches every single day and it's not always easy to find what actually works anymore... I advise you to find out as much as possible about your skin type, starting with the choice of make-up remover: oily and combination skin will appreciate a water-washable cleansing gel. On the other hand, for dry and sensitive skin (my case), it is better to use a lotion or oil.

The goal of any skin-care routine is to tune up your complexion so it’s functioning at its best. It’s not about creating perfection, you have to allow these steps to become your daily ritual that fortifies your skin and grounds your day.

The science behind skin-care products has come a long way but there’s still no such thing as an instant fix, you need time to reap the benefits and results are only seen through consistent use. Generally, aim to use a product over at least six weeks, once or twice daily, to notice a difference.

Today I am going to walk you through my skincare routine that I have been using for some time. Through consistent use of these products, I have seen noticeable changes in my skin in terms of reduction of imperfections and increased radiance.

It may seem like a lot of steps, but good care requires patience and consistency, it will definitely be worth it!

CLEANSING

After removing my make-up (I use Sephora's make-up remover) I start to cleanse my face: I use Pixi's Hydrating Milky Cleanser with a little water and massage my face, then I use my FOREO Luna Mini 2 electric brush to deep cleanse, after which I rinse again and pat my face with a towel. Now my skin is free of any residue from the day. As if I had cleared a dinner table of dust.

MASK

I then proceed with the masks. Most of the time I use another device from the Foreo brand called UFO - Smart Face Mask Treatment. It is a device that, combined with a sheet mask, easily reaches every area of the face in just over a minute, activating the ingredients in the masks we decide to use (I often use the Make my Day one). Each mask is combined with a specific UFO treatment that can be controlled from the mobile app. The treatment consists of hyper-infusion therapies (heating, cooling and T-Sonic pulsations) and LED light (green, blue, red): the heat first opens the pores and the T-Sonic pulsations infuse the active ingredients deep into the skin. Finally, cryotherapy fixes the active ingredients, firming the skin.

As an alternative to the UFO - Smart Face Mask Treatment, I use the Turmeric Brightening & Exfoliating Mask 2-in-1 by KORA ORGANICS - a wonderful product for smoothing, brightening and detoxifying pores to leave on for 10-15 minutes, also perfect as a scrub - or the wonderful masks by Sisley. I have three of them and one is more wonderful than the other: the Masque Crème à la Rose Noire (which I tend to use in the colder months because it has a heavy consistency), the Masque Gel Express aux Fleurs (an extremely fresh, moisturising and toning gel-cream) and the sublime Masque Givre au Tilleul (soothing and particularly good for sensitive skin). These masks never disappoint if you want a brighter, more radiant result.

SERUM

After the masks, I use two anti-ageing serums: a multi-peptide + HA anti-ageing serum from The Ordinary brand and Dior's Capture Youth Glow Booster, which is useful against a dull complexion, especially in times of stress and fatigue.

MOISTURIZING

Then I proceed with an eye contour and face cream: I am particularly fond of Lancome's Advance Génefique line, which is simply extraordinary and effective.

The eye contour is a powerful anti-ageing cream that intensively moisturises day and night and delivers results for a more radiant and youthful appearance.

The Advance Génefique facial night cream works to repair the skin barrier and deeply moisturise it, acting on the visible signs of ageing and achieving rejuvenated skin over time.

As a final step for my face, I use a Gua Sha, a facial massage tool inspired by traditional Chinese medicine and made of various types of quartz (mine is made of amethysts) to relax and massage the face. Its regular use helps to improve the appearance of the face and smoothen the skin. The results are incredible.

BODY CARE

As far as the body is concerned, I have not been able to do without two prototypes from Aesop for some time: the first, which I always keep in the shower, is the purifying scrub with geranium leaves, an invigorating mixture of pumice stone, bamboo stalk and botanical oils to cleanse and smooth the skin, removing dead skin.
The second is a rich, moisturising cream with macadamia nut and sandalwood oils called Rejuvenate Intensive Body Balm. Its simple smell is unsurpassed.

Finally, as a general body moisturiser, I love my Bamford Geranium, Lavander, Peppermint body cream, which is also simply wonderful and effective.

HYDRATION

Remember that to achieve fresh skin and prevent ageing, hydration plays a very important role, as does nutrition. Water is the main constituent of the human body and accounts for about 60% of body weight in adult males, while for women (who have a higher percentage of fat mass) the percentage varies between 50% and 55%. Keeping hydrated is the best way to ensure the proper functioning of all vital organs, including the skin. Water is often the best ally for eliminating waste and toxins, thus counteracting skin ageing and improving the complexion of the skin, thus ensuring a toned, fresh, young and radiant face.
